Central Lake Michigan
Ludington

Ludington 7/13/04

Took my son and his friend fishing this morning. Went 4 for 6.
Started to set up lines at 8 am (what can I say)
By 8:15 had 2 nice 8-10 lb kings in the box off of a
black mamba/red twink 25 feet down.

I had set up shallow south of the bathhouse with the intention
of being all set up before I moves into the fish. Had a break in the action
and managed to get my other lines in the water.

Flailed at that water some more for a while then moved north.
Just north of the point found the fish again,
this time on a spectra/mag diver out 120 with again black mamba/red twink.
Took the big fish for the day at above 15 lbs.
The boys did a great job getting it in.

That fish was just in the box when the blue racer/blue twink hit 30 ft down.
We were getting shallow fighting that fish, so I had just pulled the rigger
up from 60 ft so I would not have to worry about it. A nice 14 lber there.

The only 2 misses of the day were while pulling lines.
I had a nice fish get off of the mag diver (black mamba/red twink again)
and my son lost one real quick off of the blue.

Less is more? 4 of the 6 hits today were when I had 1 or 2 lines in the water.

Mushy bait – 6 hits, 6 destroyed strips.

Fish are scattered, lot of small fish at sable point, some steelies in 6  7, and 8's north of point. Personally caught few lakers off project with some  average to below average kings. seem to be around 55 down give or take. Biggest in tourney so far is 29. I heard second hand that its not  the usual in the lead so far.

Ludington for 7/3/04

Had a late start due to first time at the boat in a week after respooling all my reels with Fleaflicker.

Set up north of the point in 180 feet and by the time I got 3 lines set up we were in 300 feet. Flailed away there for a while and pulled lines and went back through the pack to off the bath house on the shallow side of the dropoff in about 90 ft. Fe set up there and made one north pass and went 1 for 3.

The first hit was on a “secret” flasher on a rigger down 50. The fish wrapped the twink around his tail and shook it off at the boat. I have never seen that one before.

The next hit was on a black mamba with a red twink 100 feet down on spectra and a mag dipsy That is the attached 18 lber, about twice the size of any fish the Sarah Ann has seen this year. The last hit was again on the black mamba, but got off. I have NOT yet made any of the new rigs, but after looking at how the last hit, the fish drive the bait head about 6” up the line, I think I will get right on that.

Went in early due to us all being tired from the trip over. Going to get some sleep and get organized. to hit it hard tomorrow.

Capt. Craig, Ludington for 6/15/04

Fished Ludington yesterday morning. Ended up 6/6. Caught 4 kings to 13# and 2 lakers. Fished the point with most of the action occuring between 90-130 FOW. Riggers 50-90 had action with lemon ice mag and flasher/fly combo. Dipsy with Blue Racer/Twink combo 150 back and full core with lemon icicle took fish. After a fast start, it was slow. The deeper water did not seem to have as many fish as we marked most of our fish in 100-120 FOW. Speed was generally around 2.2-2.4, but the last fish we took was over 3.0 which was also the largest.
