Private Message Board

I'm holding a free learning experience on March 27, 2004 at the Stronach Twsp. Hall.  Being a tax paying resident of Stronach I get the hall for almost free.  I chose this hall, because it has a small stage and will offer a better view for the planned "hands on" demonstrations.

There's a goodly amount of free parking and space is not a problem.  I will need help setting up tables and chairs the night before.  So, if you want to lend a hand, I welcome any and all.

I will be adding to this info page with the list of guest speakers willing to help out.  My part of this deal will be, "successful tactics with Cut-Bait on Lake Michigan.  My presentation will scheduled after our lunch period.

It's my belief that together we can make this a great learning experience for all.  No products will be offered for sale at the hall.  Taking money out of the equation makes sure all info is honest and not another form of pushing product.

After dealing with an open to the public message board for over 3 years, I've just experienced way to many problems to continue letting people sign-up with false names under several aliases, just to be disruptive.  False information is worse then no information...is the way I see it.

We've all heard the insulting jerk on the marine band radio before.  Well, it's no different with my message board.  I will no longer tolerate a few persons ruining a great forum and interaction between fishermen.

My policy from here on out is to have a "private members only" message board.  To join this group I have made a sign-up form that has to be filled out and signed.  There is a token fee of $10.00 to be paid with personal check when possible to further
have a tighter security check and verify new members applying.

I will try to answer every question put to me on our new board.  Members that are accepted will receive a link to a 9000 word dissertation I wrote on using cut-bait in the 2003 season.  This article will not be made  public in the near future.

If you plan on attending the Salmon Symposium please use the forms I've supplied.  If you're joining the message board too, include both forms and mail them to: John King, P.O. Box 101, Manistee, MI49660
Both sign-up forms I completed on 1/15/04 are very printer friendly.  So, just print them out.

More Super-Symposium Info

1.   So far my guest speaker list has Larry Hartwick from Off Shore-Riviera. I'm unsure of his presentation at this time, but I've seen Larry's deliberate approach to getting his message across before.  Larry has won EVERY major tournament on Lake Huron during the mid to late 1980s.

2.   Clarence White who's been representing Luhr Jensen's products in Michigan for about 30 years.  Clarence knows his product line better then anyone else and is noted for a great speech.

3.   Capt. Dick Boyajian, one of Manistee's original charter operators from back in the late 60s has consented to help us out.  Dick is a vast knowledge pool in all areas of Manistee's fishery.  Dick is responsible for Manistee's World Record 39 lb. Coho being recognized. His presentation will be called, "The ever changing Lake Michigan Fishery."  He can discuss the inception of the downrigger to present times.

4.   Capt. Bud Raskey will be attending, Bud's forgot more about fishing then most people know. Click here for a historical page on Capt. Bud

5.   Me, Capt. John King will be doing a complete presentation on successful tactics with cut bait.  My deal will cover all areas of rigging and using it correctly.  I want you to understand the concept, above all else!  While I ain't much of a public speaker, I guarantee I'll get my point across before you leave the building.

6.   Captain Jay Frolenko will be helping out with the work groups demonstrating correct knots and terminal tackle up close and personal.

7. "DTEC" Craig will be explaining the why's and where-fore's of fishing with lead core line.  He's a knowledgeable fishermen with a savvy head on his shoulders, plus he's a  likeable rascal too!

8.  Capt. Bob Hicks will be helping with the master of ceremonies duties.  Bob has done a fantastic job as webmaster at our online tackle store at: www.michiganangler.com

9.   Capt. Dave German from Northport Nailer/Magnadyne will be speaking and displaying his product line.  Dave is a tremendous asset and supports all of our efforts.  His insights will be appreciated, because he runs a charter boat vessel out of Pentwater.

10.   Brian from GLPAA has committed also.  He helps run the pro tournaments on Lake Huron. Click here for Brian's website  I promise equal coverage to Lake Huron in our deal.

11.   Keith Segar, Off Shore Tackle's factory rep will be doing a short, but a to the point presentation.

12.  Capt. Bill Sweet will be helping out with our "hands on" work-shop groups.  Bill found success last season with meat and he's willing to share his expertise with you.
Bill's passion for fishing the Great Lakes is seldom rivaled and he's a thinking fisherman.

13.   Gary "Bow" Bowman will be representing Bert's Custom Tackle.  They were kind enough to furnish the rod-holders for our display.

14.   World class sportsman and outdoor writer, Dave Richey will be there.  He's representing his venture into cyberspace called, www.daverichey.com  Dave has 22 books to his credit and wrote the Outdoor Page for the Detroit News for well over 20 years.  Dave is the reel-deal when it comes to all areas of knowledge for the sportsman of the mid-west.

15.   I like the idea of reps, because they want you to be successful with their product.  They know what works best, what sells best and how to correctly use it.  Stanch commercialism is removed too, because no products will be offered for sale at the Stronach Township Hall.

16.  I'm gonna have a fast moving affair to keep your interest levels peaked.  It's my firm conviction that taking notes is not near as important as understanding the "seat of your britches" concepts that will be offered.  Each speaker will be allowed about 20 minutes and a 10 minute Q/A period, before we move on to the next.  I'll have a wind-up timer to keep track of this.

More to come and this page will be updated when I have more info.  Once the date draws closer, I'll put up a complete schedule of all the speakers and their focus.

I kinda need some folks interested in helping me set up the Stronach Town Hall Friday afternoon prior to our presentation on Saturday.  I have a display that need to be put up and we're in charge of how we want to set-up the tables and seating arrangements. E-mail me at: kingscharter@yahoo.com if you can pitch in.

My plan is to set tables up in a crescent shape so everyone has a great view of the stage. The rear of the hall will be just plain seating, I think having the tables in front of the stage will assist in making all of you more comfortable.
