October Results

10/25/00  I pulled the lake boat today and will be concentrating efforts on the Big Manistee River for Steelhead until late March of 2001 for the outstanding world class Brown Trout Fishery Manistee has to offer.
November looks great for river Steelhead fishing.  I'm offering a reel deal on lodging at the Best Western Motel in Manistee (which is one of the nicest places to stay) and a 6 hour trip for two for $295.00.

10/17/00 thru 10/24/00 I spent a working on projects around the house (new garage door) and posted a new page on: Click here for Surface Fishing Tactics the link will explain how to fish with in-line planers or birds on the surface.

10/16/00  Fishing on Lake Michigan is decent if the weather allows us to get off the dock.  Steelhead in the  Big Manistee River are showing up in better numbers everyday and November looks like the will be "hot" for Steelhead in the 8 to 12 pound range.

10/13/00
Tried to fish today Steve and Cindy Wixson, but the rough seas on Lake Michigan put an end to that.  They were accompanied by their long time friends Ross and his wife.  They wisely decided to rebook after a couple of miles of 4 foot plus seas, we had 2 hits and landed a small King before heading back to port.
I wished the lake wasn't so rough because this group were out for a good time and they were some of the pleasant folks I've been around in a long time.  Today could have turned into a grand time for all.  I'll be seeing Steve back because he left me a deposit for another trip in 2001.

10/12/00
Fished with Greg Watson, Tom "Taco" Webb, Duff "Geek" Parker, Lowell Merillat and Ron Gustwiller on Lake Michigan today.  The group landed 4 Steelhead and 4 Kings on a  windy and lumpy Lake Michigan.   Everyone fought and boated decent sized fish to the 10 plus range.  This was the 4th year Greg has fished with me during October and has yet to go home empty handed.
This was a great group to fish with because they were "on it" when it came to handling the rods and during the course of a shortened full day trip, they only missed one hit and had two skyrocketing Steelies that didn't make into the fish box.  Click here for their catch photo

10/7/00 thru 10/9/00
Spent most of the time working on the website.  I added a Site Map and June, July and August 2000 Photo Galleries to show what the actual catches looked like.  The Site Map will make it easier for first time visitors to find their way around because this is a fishing website on steroids!

10/6/00
Clover and Larry Dye fished with me on the Big Manistee River for Steelhead casting spawn.  We hit numerous holes is quest of fish and found a dandy 7 pounder willing to accept our offerings.  Clover caught one of the few fish taken on the river today.  All guides reported similar results with not many fish available.  The fish were not on the bite today at all.  Most boats I spoke with were skunked, but it was a nice day on the river anyways.  The weather was decent until we quit around 2:00pm, then it got nasty.

10/5/00
Fished today with Larry Dye and his wife Clover along with his friends from Missouri Jim and Mary.  We boated 7 fish on the half day charter that included a Steelhead, a Laker that was released and 5 Kings to 14 pounds.  The lake cooperate with seas less than 2 feet and light breezes.
While I wouldn't consider 7 fish (3 skippers) a banner red letter day the action was enough to satisfy Larry who recently returned from a Alaska Salmon Adventure on the Kenai River.  He said today's results were better than what he experienced in Alaska, he's fished Homer, Soldotna and the Russian Peninsula.  Quite a testament from a from a man who knows about the Alaska Salmon Fishery first hand!  Click for great photo while at dockside.

10/1/00  Meet with Steve Frey Senior and Junior at 7:00am and it was much to windy to fish Lake Michigan.  Steve rebooked May 5th, 2001 for the outstanding Salmon Fishery at Saugatuck, MI.  When we can get out the first 3 weeks in Oct. the action will be fantastic on leaping silver bullet water rockets....... Steelhead!
